How to get the red-hot-log rolling star in Mario 64

1. Enter the painting

Go to the basement (requires the 1st bowser key). Go to the right into the hallway and open the door then walk or run to the right and then straight down to the Lethal Lava Land painting and jump in it.

2. Go to the volcano.

Jump across the gap from the platform where Mario is to the other platform. Then go left to the grey platform where the bully is. Ignore him and long jump to the volcano. Mario might get burned because he touched the lava and as a result, he will jump to get you a little more distance. This might take another attempt.

3. Get to the bully’s platform

Run and jump off the right side of the rotating platform onto the sinking spotted platform. Stay in the middle. Jump to the next one, now run up the sloped wood and knock the bully’s off and wait for a moving cage like platform to come.

4. Hot ride

Now your going to the log. all you have to do is be careful, and watch out for the flames that pop out of the lava as they can cause Mario to panic and fall of the platform into the lava and you will have the process of getting this star all over again. Jump on the platform that leads to the log.

5. Red Hot Log Rolling

Now is the tricky part. Run along the side of the log as shown in the picture. Be sure to not fall of the edge wall in the process. You can go to the end of the log and long-jump halfway.

4. Collect your star

Run to to the star and collect it.

5. Be sure to save

There is the option to save and continue, Save and quit, and Continue don’t save. Please press A on the first or second option. If you continue/don’t save and die in another stage you will loose this star.
